If build it they will come, or should I say Hummmmm!!!!

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

I had my first hummingbird sighting last night. I prepared the garden beds with plants scattered throughout to attract hummingbirds again this year. This is the earliest I've ever had them in the garden the feeders went out this morning.

This outside of my kitchen so that I can enjoy them through the window, or door without disturbing them.

A closer view of the plants, which include a red shrimp plant the standard in the picture, colombines, some of which were grown from seed by winter sowing, and two kinds of salivia.

Wow! Positively lovely! You're gonna have a hummingbird Hootenanny!!!
That red shrimp plant is now on my must have list.

Thanks y'all. Now I hope that can catch them in action.

Very beautiful. And perfectly located near the door. I am still waiting for my first hummer to return this year. So anxious, I am. :-)

Newport, TN(Zone 7a)

I am hoping the hummingbirds will come soon. It is no fun to clean and refill the feeders when they aren't being used. Sort of like throwing a party and no one comes. :( Although, if I was vacationing in a tropical paradise like Costa Rica, Peru, Belize, etc., I might not be in a big hurry to go hang out in East Tennessee. Perhaps engraved invitations?

I can relate to that! :-/

This is the earliest a hummer has visited here, in the past it's been usuallyJune or July. They're heading further north, so I have no doubt TN will see hummers soon. I don't usually put out the feeders till I spot them.

Edited for spelling.

Incredible garden! I'm sure the hummers will be along in numbers.

I'd certainly visit that garden if I was a hummer. :-D

Beautiful garden!

Do the hummers like your shrimp plant? It's a beauty!

Duluth, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks tabasco, the hummers do like the shrimp plant. I've also planted the yellow variety in different spots around the garden.

Mifflintown, PA(Zone 6a)

That shrimp plant is a beauty. Is that the same as the yellow shrimp plant?

Newport, TN(Zone 7a)

Gosh folks, I got a bit busy... I have a few regular hummers, and despite my best efforts, they (2females and a male ruby throat) are sticking with the feeders, not the flowers. Perhaps they will visit the garden once summer really comes on. Wish i had a shrimp plant.
happy humming!

oriole, the red shrimp plant and yellow have blooms/bracts that have the same form. The red is more of a rust color.
