Here is a Hibiscus relative not grown for its flowers. It has large, 12"+ roundish serrated, palmately lobed leaves with red petioles and veins. Leaves are a deep green and heavily spined making a nice color contrast. Flowers are in leaf axils, bright yellow with red epicalyx, abour 2" in diameter .
Wercklea ferox-Strange Hibiscus relative
A bit reminiscent of a Begonia .............. sort of .............. a bit ....
They do look somewhat begonia like, but the picture does not do it justice. The leaves are huge, very textured and spiney, and the deep green of the leaves with the red veins and petioles make it very colorful. Maybe not what most would consider beautiful, but certainly unique! It has buds forming, will add a pic of the flowers when they open-

Can't wait to see the flower, David. I think it reminds me more of rhubarb, with those big leaves and red stems. Looks like a good plant to keep the critters out of your yard, huh? Very prickly.
I need this unique plant - what's its botanical name?
Wercklea ferox, very different and attractive, grows fast & likes it wet
Wow .. I'm with Kay .. I need it too! Any chance of seeds or cuttings? Hmmmm?
I am hoping to have seedling/cutting in a couple months

I'll trade with you, too, Popper - just dmail me.
You might want to start your Want - Have Trade lists as well.
Yea, I have a lot of very rare/hard to find plants that I am going to start propagating. There are just SO MANY. It would be a good place to have some organization though too.
I know how that goes .. I use an Excel file for mine and list Common and Latin names, Location, Condition, Numbers, In pot or ground, rooted cutting or grown from seed and whether or not they need to go into the greenhouse in Winter .. I inventory every spring when I take things out of the greenhouse. The first time you do it its a chore, but once you get the master list it's easy to update every year.
That flower & the leaves are indeed unique. Thanks for the pics & info on the plant.
My wish list grows almost every time I look at these threads.
Popper, did you propagate any to sell?
I have 4 seedlings to trade/sell
Will you be listing them on the Classifieds here a DG? If so, let us know when you do.
I'll be listing them later in the week.
David
Great! Please post HERE when you do, so we that are watching this thread will be automatically notified.
I listed the seedlings in the classifieds today. They are growing great, already 18" tall.

Edited to add: I couldn't fine your listing.
Hmmm, I wrote and posted it, pics and everting. Must have done something wrong. I'll try again. Does it take time for the ad to appear?
Just looked, ad is being reviewed. Guess it is posted after it is approved.
