I was out in my garden at dusk tonight and noticed my little milkweed plants looked a bit chewed. Dare I hope? I haven't had monarchs since 2009 in my gardens. I looked closer, and sure enough, tiny monarch cats were munching on the leaves!! I quickly cleaned up a crate hauled down from the attic and gathered up ten of the little fellas to grow up safely in my care. I have lots of milkweed popping up all over my gardens, even thought about pulling some of it out, but now I'm just thrilled to think I'll have monarchs this year!!
my first monarch cats of the season!!
Excellent! Enjoy them.

oooooOOOO..So exciting! How big were the plants when you noticed the snacking? I have caterpillar envy! LOL! :) . I hope that happens for me! I planted some milkweed about 2 weeks ago, they are only about 2 inches tall. Started from seed I gathered from a field last fall. Good luck with your caterpillars ! Post some pictures.
