Last year, I planted Oregano in my herb bed. Before the winter, it was growing upright and had reached just under a foot tall. After the few freezes we had, it died back, but re-sprouted in early spring. However, now its growing like a ground cover instead of upright! It just keeps spreading and spreading. all three plants are doing the same thing in different parts of the bed... is this normal?
My Oregano Acting Like A Ground Cover?
Yes... that is normal for oregano and it will spread similar to mint. Some folks keep it "contained" to control it. With three plants, I'm hoping you love it... lol Kristi
LOL! Oh no, maybe I should remove the two smaller plants now....hrmmm...LOL
If I'm not mistaken, it is in the mint family. At the very least, it behaves like mint.
I keep mine potted but that is only because we were so dry, I could control the moisture better.
Wishing it would spread in ground where I want to plant it... good luck.
Mine got away from me so last year i pulled it all up. It was pretty easy to pull. This year I have quite a large clump. Hmmm. Me thinks the pot idea is very good.
I have mine planted at fence edge and am diligent to only allow it 6" on either side of the fence - everything else is dug out in early spring when it emerges. Seems to work, although you also must be on alert for errant babies popping up outside the perimeter. Lovely plant for the bees.
