Have you heard that the IRA are now being pressurised into peace at last, they are getting a hell of a lot of pressure from the American Government, so we MIGHT see proper peace at last, even if they cant live together. Well after the 11th of September who wants to be classed as a terrorist.
Wonderful news.
It's about time, Sheila. But I'm not too optimistic about how long any peace would last. Religious hate tends to go deep. I'd a boyfriend who was Catholic, a sweet kind person. We had a lot of oppposition because we were different religions. Sadly we were too young to make it together.
yeah I saw that too sheila last night, wouldn,t it be great.A lot of the conflict over the years has been done in the name of religion,I guess people just read into it what they will.I get cross when they keep saying this is an attack on muslims, would they have been as bothered if it had been jews or christians or buddists?I can,t believe that any religion condones murder in any form . People use it to cover and justify their own agendas, namely that of power,or lack of it.
But i do hope it works out, I feel sorry for those living in the middle of it, it,ll take years for the old predudices to go away. My daughter saw on t.v. an article about slaves, and I was trying to explain to her how coloured people used to be seen as second class citizens, and others owned them, she was really incensed, and couldn,t believe that people could think like that. 'What does it matter that their skin is a different colour ?'she asked, and that made me feel good, because that,s how I want my kids to grow up,I don,t think colour ,religion or any of those things should matter, it,s what you,re like as a person, and how you act that,s important.
'scuse me,didn't mean to interupt your conversation. Something sent me here this afternoon, little bird, lol'This is my first visit over here too. Couldn't have been more thrilled with the news of"fighting stopped" Many of us hope for peace everywhere now,I for one, always have. The anthrax scare is now taking a toll here. I must agree, especially since I'm a person that is "color blind" Raised our children to always look within not on just "looks alone". I credit my family for perservering and rejecting negative remarks and showing kindness to everyone they met. I'm not a scrapper by nature but sure earned my stripes, protecting the underdogs, growing up in school, lol'Every culture has some horror stories some more than others. The history books all say the native americans were savages and less than animals. The movie industry didn't help either, portraying their personal biases either. It is up to parents especially to squeltch the hatred early before it's roots begin'Gettin down from my soapbox now and appologize for my long windedness(if there is such a word, lol)Hope I didn't wear out my first welcome' Sis'
Hi Sis
if only everyone thought like that .If kids grow up with prejudices they must stem from somewhere, and that,s nprmally in the home. What I can,t understand is how can people look at another person and decide they hate them because of what they are race or religion wise, without even knowing that person. There,s no logic in it, it must be something so deep-rooted as to be almost a type of folk-lore ,if you understand my meaning. I was a bit like you too, always doing battle for the underdogs, and my kids have grown up the same. I,m always warning one of them because she doesn,t care who she takes on,(she,s only little)but her mouth more than makes up for that.I,ve seen her tackle a group of strapping blokes.
Hello Sis! Yes, it is good news isn't it? I just hope it works this time round. Religious prejudices do tend to go deep. One of the Irish schools had a terrible start to the term, if I remember rightly. One school had children who had to make their way along a road which belonged to the other side. The children had a terrible time of it. When even young children are victims I have to wonder just how long it will take for these communities to heal.
Nice to see a new face. Do look in on us again. We DO have lighter topics on conversation!
