They swore and swore we would have a horribly dry winter and spring.
They finally gave in and said we are looking much better.

Drought Prediction
Thanks so much, Juju. At least it is not forecast to be as bad as last year.
Being that last year was the worst in history, it would be hard to hit that benchmark.
Knock on wood.
The lakes in north Texas are back to normal, for the most part. The thing that concerns me is ... will we have another miserably hot summer? Not sure I can take another summer that consists of 3 months of 100 degree heat. And these 80 degree days in March are making me very wary.
Carla
They're still saying warmer than normal for the rest of the year, but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean as hot as last year.
They also said drier, ATM I could build a mud hut. LOL
I dont think we can hit the same temps as last year because we have moisture in the ground this spring. Last year, we had a dry winter and spring and because of that, the ground temps were much higher than normal. Evaporation keeps ground temps cooler. Dry soil caused elevated temps which caused more evaporation which then created a loop. As long as the ground has more moisture than last year, we wont see something like that again. I am hoping for 25 days over 100 which is still more than twice the normal amount for central Texas.
25 days I can handle. Juju-since it looks as though its going to keep raining we do have a good outlook. Fall 2009-Spring 2010 were really wet, and the temps werent bad either the summer of 2010. But that was the first year I ever had a problem with Fungus (I think) on my tomato plants. The year before I had 0 problems. It looks like Alternaria Stem Canker to me. Ive heard its limited , for the most part, to the west coast but Im not so sure.
I have had a lot of mold issues this year so I suspect it is a fertile ground for diseases.
lol 25 days over 100 is a stroll in the shade.
The bad part of that moist ground cycle is that when it does dry out (Aug-Sept-ish), there is so much lovely tall dry grass and brush for tinder. Lots of conversations around here about clearing greenbelts...
Juju-what have you done about your mold issues?
It was just mold on potting soil and around certain areas of the yard. So far it hasnt hit the plants but I suspect they are ripe for it.
Thank you. Guess we have to take the good with the bad. I can't even get in my garden it's so wet, never thought I would say that after last summer. Lol
