With the weather warming my epis which I've had in a cool room for the winter ingnoring them for the most part have started to show some spring life, but I'm finding that they have developed some scale. Does anyone know how I should clean them up? I know about spraying them with watered down alcohol, Should I repot, trim, any help appreciated, I have about 14 to care for.

Epis showing winter scale bug.
Try Bayer 3 in 1 Insect, disease and mite control spray. That's the only thing I've found that works.
Thanks Carol thats what I will do. By the way I put one of my epis in my husbands garage/work place and hung it above where he works the most under artificial light, I looked the other day and found that it had 3 flower buds, It's called "Desert Haze"
I moved it here in the house in front of a picture window, I'm looking forward to my very first blooms..camera in hand. Now to get those bugs off my other ones. ugh.

All of mine but a couple of the newest cuttings have buds too, but I don't think I'll get any pics this month.
I was plagued with scale last winter. I found Spectracide Immunox 3 in 1 effective. The plants did much better this winter with regular spraying. I found a small amount of scale on only 1 plant so far this year, but I hadn't sprayed for a few weeks, in comparison many were affected last year. I have not had any spider mites on the tropical plants either, which was also a problem last year. The difference was I sprayed the plants prior to bringing them in the house in the fall, and tried to spray them regularly this winter. Best of luck with your blooms :-)
acts238,
A picture is worth a thousand words.
I would like to SEE what you are talking about.
Ginger, I wish I would have taken a picture. I bought the Bayer 3 in 1 and it seemed to work. I didn't know to spray them regularly though out the year. I think when it gets warm enough for them to be outside I will buy some that you can attach to the hose and spray them monthly. I did get a bloom on my "Desert Haze", my very first!!! Exciting
OCCAROL, Those are beautiful, I have one name "going Bananas" and can't wait to see the bloom, love the yellow colors.

Carol,
I agree with Grace.
The yellow sure looks a treat. ^_^
Thank you. I'm pleased with it.
