I just want to ask everyone to please make sure there is some way to identify your dogs. Monday I found a little Shih Tzu in a big intersection, and didn't know how to get her home. She's 14, almost blind, and deaf. Somehow she got out of her fence, and into the 6 lane highway. Fortunately, everyone in that intersection must have been a dog lover, as they waited while she wandered in circles, until I could get to her. Took her right to my Vet, and she had no chip, so no way to know where she came from. I had knocked on doors (I didn't think she could have gotten far) but no-one was home. I did tell one person I found walking, and a couple leaving a nearby cul de sac, where I was going. Still, I wasn't able to get her home that night. She did get home the next day, but I am sure it was very stressful for all concerned.
My point is that they never imagined she would get out. She doesn't even know how to walk on a leash very well.
Please. please, please, make sure there is a way to ID your pets. A chip is perfect, but even a fabric collar with a magic markered address, phone number and her name would have had Annie home that night. Even if they NEVER go out alone, accidents, fire and careless service providers do happen.
Don't leave it to chance :)
Thank you for letting me vent *G*
Please ID your "inside" dogs :)
