American Black; mallard; or gadwell?
CLOSED: Which Duck?
That's a male Mottled Duck. Female Mottled would have a darker, almost olive-green bill.
Neither Mallard nor Black Duck would have that black spot at the lower base of the bill and Gadwalls have thinner bills that are black on top & yellow/orange at the sides.
