Queen's Tears - Billbergia nutans. The first time I saw the flower of this plant in a picture I thought it was a plastic flower! When I found out it was real I knew I had to have one .. the colors of the flowers are amazing! This one is in my greenhouse at the moment under the bench because they don't like direct sun. Believe it or not, the colors are somewhat muted because it's in not so bright shade. You get the best colors in very bright shade.

I am always in awe of those flowers, my grand daughter calls them Rainbow Plants.
I have another one now X, the flowers are larger and intense, but not so varied, they are mostly a deep rosy red/pink. I'll be at the Carolina Yards Gardening School in Ladson on 3/24. If you want some of this other Bil, LMK and I can drop a piece off then. http://www.regonline.com/Register/Checkin.aspx?EventID=1060654
I have two new Bil's, one bloomed last summer and I was not impressed but perhaps it was too young. We'll see what happens this year. In any case, the foliage is spotty and cool looking.
Thanks again for sending me mine! If you have the time I'd love for you to stop by and see my garden while you're in my neck of the woods!
WOW!! That is a beauty :) The blooms really don't look real ha! You are a great grower though :)

X, I'll be in touch closer to the date. I am doing a propagation workshop at the event.
Mine always bloom during the Winter, but not this year for some reason.
Love that bloom!
