Daffodil Bulbs

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

So sometime back in the fall when my get up and go was still active, I purchased a bag of cheapo daffodil bulbs. I had great intentions of getting them planted so I'd have nice yellow blooms in the spring. Well, of course, the planting didn't happen and now they're sprouting in their little bag in my kitchen. Can I go ahead and plant them (once the snow is gone of course)?

You can but they probably wont bloom until next year. If you dont plant them, you could lose them to drying out or insects or something. I'd plant.

Thanks! I figured that if I did plant them they wouldn't bloom, but hey, they'll be in the ground for next year!

You want to plant them as the bulbs need to receive the necessary nutrients from the foliage growth.
That way they will deliver blooms for you next February in spite of the snow and ice. It does not deter them.

My city sells bulbs in the fall, the order form is with water bill. I ordered fifty and picked them up when they were ready.Until last week they were in my garage,so pathetic. There were sprouts coming out of the mesh bag.I did get them planted and know there will be no blooms, so that's my own fault. On another note I planted Tulips right after Christmas and they are about six inches tall. Tonight temps may be really low so they may not bloom as well.

Plant your daffodils asap.
They might bloom this year but at a different time than they normally would bloom.
By next year the bulbs will reset their clock and bloom when they are supposed to bloom.

I never buy the cheapy bulbs from Home Depot, Sam's or Lowe's. They are very bad quality and a waist of planting time (done that).

Now I think my soil is solid full of bulbs ... serioulsy ...

I normally bought my daffodils in December - when they go on super sale because people thinks it is too late to plant.
I order a bushel ... which is more than you need ... but the price is just too good.
The bulbs are just huge and sure to perform well.

I order from : http://www.kvbwholesale.com/store/daffodils

Right now are all out of stock. But watch in December, their daffodil mix will go in super sale .... weeee

drthor, remind us again in the fall when you see that great sale. Stephanie, several of us need to go in on a bushel, that would be fun. That is if they come named so we could divide.
