Brugs and Bugs......

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hi,

Just brought a brug in that is getting ready to bloom and wanted to pollinate it and grow under light this winter. I may have made a mistake. The plant was loaded with those crazy gold colored lady bugs (that is what I call them anyway) and I'm afraid I'm going to have a real problem in the house. Is anyone else having trouble with these critters? We can't walk in the back door without bringing them in on our clothes. I'd like to know what to use to get rid of them. Help!!

Sorry S....can't help you with the bugs..

(Zone 6a)

The ladybugs are getting thick around here now too....they are trying to get into the house so they can keep warm this winter:) They don't take up much space....and they are good beetles, since they eat aphids:)

But Owen, these lady bugs bite. They also "dump" on the walls and window sills. They fly around the lights and bounce off the ceiling. Not pleasant to live around.
I'm not sure ours eat aphids, just me!! :-)

Attack of the killer beetle.... i guess my eyes aren't good enough, but i am sure i haven't been bitten, had them last 3 years, first time it gets cold then warms up. i run the vacuum when they start bothering me. do they have spots on them?

Brugie, I don't think these are the regular ladybugs.I think we have the same bug here that you are referring to. Is it a little bigger than a spotted lady bug and solid orangish. Is that a word? :) And yes they do bite. My DH thought I was crazy when I told him I got bit in the neck by a ladybug the other day.

Yes, it is the invasion of the gold spotted killer beetles. I just hate those dirty things. Now, the regular little orange lady bug has a place if it wants to come in, but not these things. I had one under my shirt earlier this evening and that isn't a good feeling either. Don't know how the vac would work in this case. :-)
