Creeping Bellflower, Rampion Bellflower, June Bell
Campanula rapunculoides
Adenophora Ladybells
Creeping Bellflower, Rampion Bellflower, June Bell (Campanula rapunculoides)
This looks like the weedy, invasive Campanula rapunculoides rather than an Adenophora. In the US, plants sold as various Adenophora species usually turn out to be Campanula rapunculoides.
Both Campanulas and Adenophoras are closely related, what's the difference between the 2?
Campanula rapunculoides is one of the most insidious garden weeds I've ever dealt with.
Adenophora liliifolia has flowers in a panicle and not in a raceme as shown in your picture.
Adenophora differs from Campanula in having a bulblike or cylindrical disc at the base of the style.
Here's a great set of illustrations: http://www.robsplants.com/plants/adenophora.php

Guess I'll have to wait til May-June for bloom....
Hi,
Your plant is unquestionably not Adenophora liliifolia. There's no need to wait for it to bloom for the purpose of correcting this plant entry (though I'd highly recommend doing the Campanula vs. Adenophora test just for educational purposes, as anyone who "thinks" they are growing Adenophora species should do as a check).
The form of the inflorescence on your plant is wrong, as already stated. Your plant has the one-sided raceme of Campanula rapunculoides, rather than the spreading pyramidal panicle of Adenophora liliifolia.
Looking at the flowers on yours, the corolla is divided to about 1/3, as in Campanula rapunculoides, whereas in A. liliifolia, the corolla is only shallowly divided.
On your plant, the style is shorter than the corolla, as in Campanula rapunculoides, rather than protruding beyond the corolla, as in A. liliifolia.
It would be much appreciated if you would please ask to have your photos removed from the entry for Adenophora liliifolia. (You could ask to have them moved to the entry for Campanula rapunculoides, if you wish.)
Thanks,
altagardener
This is a nice photo of the Creeping Bellflower, Campanula rapunculoides. Move it to that page.
