Its the middle of winter here and I have 5 maybe 6 silkie broodies!!Every day I go out there is more.I don`t want anymore silkie babies I have got to wait and see if I can sell what I have first. And yes there is two in a couple boxes, seperated them and put them in there own box went in the house came back out and they were back togather again,so I`ll just leave them alone.I am waiting on someone`s fertility rate to go up on her BBS orps and she is going to send me some free eggs but it might be awhile and broodies don`t eat and drink very good and I worry about that in the winter, they really need the food to keep warm although my coop stays above freezing with the heat lamps going.
CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS??
I heard they were a broody breed.
Yup... typical. Doesn't seem to make sense to us though! I'd want food!!
yep I believe it. I have been fighting broodie girls all winter. Finally letting them have a few. The Araucana are way worse than my Silkies were
I have four for sure and I do have eggs comming in a day or two,bbs orp eggs.
That reminded me to go out and check on my two partridge hens. Both have been sitting on infertile eggs for awhile. So they spent awhile locked in the garage in a big wire dog crate. One broke pretty easily, the other one had to spend a few more days in solitary before she gave up. She had indeed lost weight.
Today both are out free ranging. Now I need to keep an eye on the little black one.
