I'm working outside today to clean up my gardens and I notice a few plants have emerged from their winter sleep. If you're going to be in the area and you'd like to come and dig, you're welcome to take a few. I'm in Jonesboro, Ark, about an hour North of Memphis, about 2 hours from Little Rock.
The main thing I ask is that you leave my soil. I can't afford to give away plants, like I do each year, if I have to buy soil to refill all the holes. These plants are for pickup only. Sorry, I just don't have time to dig, pack and ship boxes of plants.
Some of the plants I currently have to share are:
Bronze fennel - beautiful bronzy, feathery scented foliage, can cook with it, attracts black swallowtail butterflys
Lavender Physostegia - Obedient Plant, aka False Dragonshead
Lemon Balm - an herb to cook with, lemon scented/flavored
Spice Mint - an unusual mint with an awesome fragrance
Catnip - a wonderful treat that gets your cat drunk and provides you with hours of entertainment. LOL
Variegated Vinca Major - a creeping groundcover that prefers a bit of shade, but tolerates sun too, purple flowers in spring and fall
Blue Louisiana Irises - not your granny's irises. These prefer moist areas, but will tolerate drought too. They often grown near ponds, lakes, ditches, etc.
Parrots Feather - a green feathery pond plant
Cuttings of roses - I hear these root easily by sticking the stems in the ground this time of year.
If you're interested in coming out to dig, let me know. All my plants are perennials--meaning they come back year after year. They're all tough and drought tolerant. Bring your boots; my yard is muddy. And please overlook the weeds and debris. I'm trying to get everything cleaned up, but there's so much to do.
I'll be available today, Thurs, Fri and the weekend. I'm right off Hwy 63 at Exit 42.

Isn't it wonderful that we are all coming out of our winter-holes!?!...wish I was there to help dig!
It's so nice to have a warm winter for a change. The last three winters just about did me in! This winter, we've had lots of 50-60 degree days and I'm lovin it! I've been able to get outside here and there most of the winter. I even noticed that one of my rosemary plants survived winter this time; I usually have to replace them each spring. Now I have fresh rosemary to cook with!
Has old man winter been kind to you this year, MaryAnn?
Yea, Rosemary...I keep telling you that the species is the thing!...winter has been good and business BRISK!...but wonderful.
A group of ladies is coming over Sat around noon for a "plant poaching expedition" in my gardens. So if any of you will be in the neighborhood then and would like to join us, please let me know. We're going to make it a little early-spring party and have refreshments and some fun. It's supposed to be around 55 or 60 that day, and it's making us all antsy. So if you're antsy for spring too, come on out and join us in the dirt (mud, actually).
Oh, whine. Whine. If I start walking now, do you think I could make it?!
Maybe you better get a scooter. You could probably be here on time then! LOL
