I had an overwhelming urge to plant something today!

Charlotte, NC(Zone 7b)

When I got up this morning I couldn't wait any longer, so I planted some pea seeds indoors! Everything I've read says to direct sow peas, but I tried starting some indoors last year and they did better than the ones direct sown.

I hope the garden room is warm enough. The heat mat I purchased only goes as low as 68F. The air temperature thermometer is reading 60F and the house shouldn't go below 55F overnight this week.

I know what you mean HoneyBee-I direct sowed peas and carrots on Sunday after tilling in compost. Hope they germinate!

homers - I see we are in the same zone! These 65F days we've been having are tempting us to go outside and plant something, aren't they? (Resistance is futile) LOL

Tomorrow it's supposed to get into the low 70's.

The peas I sowed on Jan 31st are beginning to sprout - YAY! I'll give them a few more days, and then start hardening them off outside before transplanting them to the garden.

I gave up on peas ... I always had bad luck with them.
But kuddo to you.

drthor - what a shame :(

Hubby and I grew up in England, so peas were more or less a staple. The cool English summers are perfect for growing peas.

If it were not for the birds eating the young leaves as fast as they sprout, I would direct sow. Once the trees start putting out leaves, the birds ignore the peas.

no worries ... I have accepted my weakness on not being able to grow peas here in DFW ... it is ok I can grow so much other stuff ...

I've planted sugar snap and snow peas, some of which have popped up, and Sunday put in blueberries. Getting ready for the lettuce and bok choy to go in in the next few days:)
