Hey,
Where did y'all all go? Is there a party and someone forgot to tell me.:(
Where is everyone?
Glad to see you're still here Glory. It's been pretty lonesome here all by myself.Maybe someones having a Brug bash and forgot to invite us. :)
I'm here too. Just a sittin, twiddling my thumbs. Still have that question about whether it will make my brugs bushier if I cut out the top. Hate to do it. I guess I could cut the second largest and see what happens. Of course putting in my journal or I'll forget
I would guess it would make them bushier by cutting out the top....but just a guess.
Has anyone tried putting brug cuttings in sealed plastic bags with a few drops of water, and then storing in refrigerator until the springtime? Or is just sticking them in dirt and storing in a cool dark place the best way?
Owen
tiG, I was wondering too how they get those short bushy Brugs just loaded with flowers, pruning or is it just the type of Brug? It seems that if you don't pinch the top in some way they would just keep getting taller.
Owen,
No, I haven't tried the fridge thing...I do know if you stick a green cutting in a sealed plastic bag it will rot very fast. I'd be afraid to put anything but food in my fridge cause DH might eat it. LOL I had some hummingbird food in a container and he thought it was Koolaid.
I have two fairly tall Dr S. think today I will cut one of them back to 3' and keep records of what it does. That's the only way I'm going to learn, right:)
I missed the party too. I was about to ask where everyone was myself. Gloria, my cuttings, actually they are rooted now, are doing great. I'm going out later to move them to larger pots. Our weather here is still pretty mild so they are outside. Received some more cuttings recently. Jean sent me some and I got those from that lady on gardenweb. Remember, some one posted about it on DG. They are unnamed but are yellow, peach, and pink. When they bloom, I'll have to post pictures and see if I can get them ID-ed. I guess sounds pretty optimistic, but I like to think positive. Glad someone is back posting. Pam
it had me wondering too
Hello Everybody!! Several cuttings have rooted and new leaves... tiG,, One the cutting you sent me 1 or 2 months ago and now I need to repot it.. Need a big pot! They sure keep me busying!
snowhermit, i think it may be the type. watch out for the jutner orange, mine is spread out about 20 feet...six stalks i think. Irish, this will be a good one to try to braid i think. the one i call frosty pink spread out too, in a kind of wierd way. cutting back doesn't seem to help that much except you have cuttings to share... keep popping out new ones.
good job!!! come on spring, huh?? :)
I'm here! Just getting over a virus, so now I am ready to party! Gloria, all you sent are doing great and the cuttings are getting the nubbies now! Pam, do you have a white one yet?
Jean
tiG,
I know there are some brugs that are bushier then others. I have a Versicolor Peach and a Apricot Moonflower..the flower looks the same but the bushes are different. Versicolor has more of a short canopy and the Moonflower gets tall.
Jean, Yes, I have the double whites that Gloria sent. they are doing great, ready to move to a larger pot. Did you get the card I sent about Dr. S. and CG arriving? I've had so many come back lately. Don't know what's wrong. I'm using addresses I've used before with no problem. Go figure! Pam
They were right about Jutner Orange. I've got a huge one. Seems like the more open space around them, the more they spread out. Except for Ecuador Pink, it's wants to go straight up, even when I pinch out the top. Frosty Pink doesn't get very tall, but gets wide. Suaveolens White is a naturally bushy plant and not too tall.
Gosh, I'm sure glad to see you all are still here. I've been visiting this site daily and nothing new popped up. tig, if you cut your brug back, won't you have to wait for it to Y again and that will probably make it taller and not bushier. Unless you are hoping for more shoots near the top cut. Here in Iowa, we just let the wind prune ours. Sometimes it isn't funny. Like Arlene says, just makes more cuttings for someone. Don't you just love to experiment?? Happy, Happy Everyone!!
Arlene
I kinda of had the same thoughs on the frosty pink. think I will give it a try have a few extra cuttings to do it with. Just have to fine a spot in the yard to do it
Arlene, Thanks for the warning on the JO. I'll make sure I give it plenty of space when I plant it outside next year. :) The FP and JO you sent me are doing great. They are about 3 ft. tall now. They dropped only a few leaves when I brought them into the house but have started to grow again after the shock.
Where are you Windsurffer???

Glory,
Thinking of you today as I read the above post. Yes, it does seem to have slowed down a bit, but on a brighter note, have you seen Tonny's wild yellow aurea? I know you like aurea type flowers so I thought I would keep that information to myself as I like aurea type flowers as well. I am joking of course. Can't wait to get some hybrids as nice as yours glory and I will be using every advantage I can get to do so. Most likely this will mean crossing with a few of your hybrids and keeping my toes crossed.
Brugman,
Where do I find the picture of Tonny's Wild Aurea?
Brugcrazy,
What's wrong with the Boxer? Would you post a picture so I can see what you do with all these baby Brugs. My greenhouse is starting to looks like a Brug nursery but I just don't know what size pots to start them off in since there is getting to be so many.Help!!!
Rescued the boxer on Monday, had been living up North on a reserve. Had him neutered, had a lump removed from his neck and it is being biopsied. Keeping my fingers crossed he is ok. He's 3 1/2 and so sweet. I'll email you a photo later. I'll go down to the greenhouse and take some photos later. I put the seedlings in 2" pots in trays with lights over them. Then they go into 4" pots, then gallons. My greenhouse is pretty full and am having an upstairs sunroom/greenhouse enlarged soon.
