you're a sweettie. But then you are a TEXAN. we all try to be good to each other. LOL, Alda

Oh, thanks, but I've been Texasized! Actually I was born up in Northern Indiana, but I got here as quick as I could......took a few detours along the way, haha!

The brugs have gotten bitten by the freeze we had so since the weather has been so warm has put out new "green shoots", so that is what I am sending you.

I cut them today, and have them in water. I will pack them just before I go to the PO so they can breathe until they absolute have to be closed up. I hope they root for you. I may take some more cuttings and try it myself, just to see if they do root.

Most everything I've rooted have been wood cuttings. I did do some Begonias that were green.

Let me know when you get them.

Hey Jeanne, Got your cuttings and seed. Thank you so much. They did not even wilt. They are now in soil and maybe I'll soon have rose of sharon plants and brugs. Your postage is one the way to you. Alda

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, I'm so glad they got there safely. The seeds may be a mixture of white and or lavender.

Keep in touch!

Hey girls, are cuttings the only way to grow Brugs? Or do they produce seeds. Thanks, Sylvia

Center, TX

Texasgal, I have some bad news. The pretty cuttings you sent were great when I stuck them in dirt. BUT, then they just melted into nothing. I guess they won't root now. Thanks anyway for your effort. We'll try again later, huh. alday

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

I'll send you some hardwood cuttings from the brugs later in the year. They are all green now. Sorry that happened, now we know to stick to wood cuttings.

If I forget, please remind me.

Alday, I had the same thing happen to my Brug cuttings. A kind person sent me cuttings, they STARTED off just fine, but then slowly turned to a messy gel - woody cuttings are surely the ones to root.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

They do produce seeds, but I am not sure if they grow "true". I know several people who do hybridize them and get beautiful results. You might check on the brug forum.

I have rooted brug wood cuttings before and was successful.

Has anyone tried putting the green cuttings in water? I think I am going to try it.

green cuttings are the ones that turn to mush

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

I took another green cutting and put it in water to see if it will root, or if it will turn to mush as well. Will let you know what happens!

Has anyone tried this before?

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Alday, I have many rooted hardwood cuttings in a bucket, but they are too big and too long to ship in one piece. However, if you want some shorter ones I may be able to oblige with half a dozen or so. Heck I just pulled a bunch of large rooted brug bases that I had cut off the stalks from last fall. Let me know ASAP by dmail. Otherwise, not sure if I can ship before I leave for vacation next week.

The green ones from "fresh" shoots usually don't make it.

Chuck,
I am late to this and you are probably on vacation now, but if you have any more, I would love to have them. I'm trying to start over.
Thanks!

My green brug cutting in water turned to mush also....... I guess no surprise.

I've never had any problems with the hard wood cuttings surviving, except due to a freeze. All I have now are green.
