I would like to try sprouting. You know like broccoli sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, and the like. Anyone around here do it? I'm wondering if anyone can point me towards some good basic beginner info.
Thanks!
Sprouts!
I remember seeing something about sprouts and growing them on Johnny's web site where I order many of my seeds from. Here are two links about this. They sell seeds for sprouting (as I'm sure many other places do too). Anyhow, the basic information sheets might give you some starter information for your plans.
How to grow different kinds of sprouts:

The kind of sprouts they sell. I like that it says they've tested negative for the presence of "E. Coli 0157 and Salmonell". Wherever you get seed, keep that in mind. I read somewhere that you can get e. coli and such from sprouts and it can start with the seed.

Hope that helps. Happy sprouting!
Thanks for the info Dawn!
I've done Mung beans, alfalfa, radish, and wheat and flax. The basic process is to soak the seed overnight, drain it the next morning and the rinse them two or three times a day. They sprout in a few days and in a week or so you have bean sprouts. The flax didn't work for me. It always produced some kind of goo and molded.
Equipment can be very simple to start. I have a couple of canning jars that I cut out a piece of plastic canvas to make a screen lid, then screen it down with the band.
I've also used a cottage cheese container and drained it by just holding the lid on. I didn't snap the lid on but left it just laying on the top loose. It's sort of a pain to drain but otherwise worked.
I love to grow sprouts.
It is very easy.
I use the EASY SPROUT http://sproutpeople.org/supply/sprouters/easysprout.html
