Jerusalem Cricket, Potato Bug (Stenopelmatus fuscus)
Wanting to know what these Potato Bug are good for in the garden? Do they eat other bugs....harmful to crops, fruit tree, etc.
They are harmless. They do not bite or eat crops.
They are harmless. They do not bite or eat crops. I do not know if they are beneficial, but they certainly aren't the bad bug to have.
Thanks for the reply. It scared the daylights out of me when I came across it. Looks mean and like it could bite pretty good. Just moved to Fallbrook, Ca. so I am discovering all kinds of insects I've never seen before while gardening.
They do look very threatening, and they have little hooks on their paws, so they kind of scratch and get caught on you when you try putting them outside. It takes some getting used to for sure! :-)
