A licensed bander caught & banded a female rufous last Sat. a.m. I've seen two at one time but I feel like the male has long since departed. Saw the first bird in early Nov. & at various other times. The mild winter had presented a lot of flowers late but they have since been fried for the most part. This breed is by far the most common variety captured in the winter in the east. We had a black-chinned hummer that Martha & Bob Sargent captured in Dec. '92. If you want to find some great info about hummers just do a search on Martha & Bob. We always keep a feeder or two up in the winter.
