The snow is gone but more is comming.I just found these this morning in 16* .
They are still short but what a treat
Whats new in January 2012?
Guess I should go check mine
Nice Jo!!!
Suwwwweeeeet
Usually it's buried under the snow....which it will be after Sat.'s 3-6" :>(
Nice Jo, I have nothing popping thru, except crocus, but just greens.
Last year we had 3 feet of snow on them and I didnt see them until late Feb.They will continue to grow taller and buds open full but I was stoaked when I saw them. They dont call them Snow Drops for nothing.
Nope nothing here
I took these shots a few days ago of stuff that makes me smile, but now there is a couple inches of snow on the ground, though it will be gone tomorrow. It is suppose to get into the 50's. Our Snow Drops are up too in a few spots, and there are lots of hellebores in bud, but many are rather shy and still buried among their foliage except this green one. I just ordered lilies from Faraway. She has some choice ones. Spring must be almost here! Patti
lookin good patti
lower left corner...varigated Yucca????
flowAjen, yes it is suppose to be Yucca flaccida Golden Sword that we planted in 2006. It has remained a small size and always a bright spot with more symmetrical foliage than our rampant and huge plain green Yucca filamentosa. However I see that those two species get lumped together sometimes. I have tried to propagate it but the other one I planted has struggled to grow more that a tiny crown and it is planted just across the path in the same conditions. Go figure. Patti
What a winter! Loving it and the flowering plants.....
What a great color!
Lovely Ge!
So pretty!!
Nice!
very nice joann
NICE
nice to see whats comming
Opened already?? Love that rose colored one!!
I wish there was more daylight I would check my iris.
flowAjen, what treasures!!!!! Mine are coming, but not fully opened like yours.
But look what we did find yesterday. Narcissus Divison 1 - Trumpet Rijnveld's Early Sensation. This is by far the earliest budding we have ever had on a Narcissus. These bulbs were planted many years ago, and has normally been rather consistent with its bloom time that is weeks from now. And it is in a spot that is not normally the earliest of clumps of it to bloom. I have to go check the spot that normally produces our first Rijnveld's Early Sensation, maybe it has gone by already. Patti
Its sweet to think spring will be here early but I am still waiting for Memorial Day to plant annuals.
Now I want that Jelena witchhazel. Last year I planted Rubin and Aphrodite. Their buds look all dried out, though. Thought hard about Jelena. Maybe after we terrace the hill and build the water feature...
The buds do look like nuts.Go to Plantfiles and see who else carries Jelena
Really? Maybe some flowering in February or March? Thanks for the suggestion. It would be nice to have a witchhazel blooming all through the winter. My section of plants in that region will look like: camellias by the house, then witchhazels, then ilex verticillata, then viburnums, then evergreens. Someday.
Nice Jen!!!
Jen, Jo, & Patti.....wow....only have heath/heather here.....nothing on the south side of the garage except for poppy foliage....
Robindog, I would love to grow some heath or heather, but I killed the ones that I tried to grow years ago. Strange as they do well on Nantucket, so it be just poor parenting on my part.
Worked outside all day.. We did major pruning of Viburnums, Bayberry, High Bush Blueberries, Rose of Sharon, Peach and Apple trees as well as Oaks and Maples plus a lot more stuff. Tomorrow, if I can move, I will work along the drive where we have cedars, oaks, bayberry that all need hair cuts. DH worked on some overgrown Climbing Hydrangea yesterday which has improved that area dramatically, but sadly we will have far fewer blooms come summer, though it had to be done or the house would get eaten by its rampant growth. I also raked forever today. That task never ends even when I am sure I have gotten them all. My neck is completed stiff tonight.
Foolishly we have agreed to be on the tour of The Garden Conservancy's 2012 Open Garden Tour on Nantucket therefore I will be a weeding fool for the next 5 months. It is a worthy cause so we will be forced to get our act together between now and late June. Patti
I'll let my friend know. She is often on the island in summer.
