Seeking the Absolute Sweetest Cherry Tomato Ever

Maynard, MA

Several years ago, before I kept gardening records, I grew the absolute sweetest cherry tomatoes I had ever tasted. Last year--when I finally had a garden again--I tried two varieties. Sweet million wasn't so sweet. Sun Sugar was much better, but not quite the ultimate sweet experience I was after.

What is the absolute sweetest variety of cherry tomato that you have tried? (Massachusetts, zone 6 or 6a)
I'd greatly appreciate your tips.

Sun Gold wins hands down here.

Everett, WA(Zone 8a)

I don't have wide experience, but I grew Sun Gold and it was about the sweetest I recall eating.

So sweet that I would also eat them not-fully-ripe to get more "tang".

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Sun Gold is very very sweet, but I looove GOLD NUGGET.
The plant is 3" tall with millions of delish yellow cherry tomatoes. Yummy !! My favorite !

Try "Black Cherry" then thumbs down to the rest of them.

Thanks for the suggestions. Now, my next question:

Does it matter where you buy the seeds from?

I mean, aside from questions about organic vs not organic, or cost, etc, will the tomatoes taste essentially same no matter where you buy the seeds from?

(BTW, after reading your replies, I thought to Google the question, too. Found this from the New Yorker magazine:

"Cherry tomatoes are the M&M’s of the tomato world—compulsively edible, and, at their best, nearly as sweet. And when it comes to cherries, the Sun Gold variety, a popular hybrid developed in Japan, effortlessly dominates. Off the charts in sugar and acid, it swept the top spots in our undercard match, a “dessert course” to the main event.")

Stamford, CT(Zone 6b)

I like the sweet gold; they're even sweeter than sun gold. I get sweet gold, sun gold and the supersweet 100s from the website reneesgarden.com or from my local garden center. They are the tricolor combo known as "Garden Candy."

Most seeds that are hybrids and well known are grown mostly by large growers ...so who you buy the seeds from likely doesn't matter. How you raise them may though.

One thing about us large growers, we get a vast amount of feedback from people. We could not keep up supplying
Black Cherry to our customers. We get them at
