Drought

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

They say that despite the above average rainfall this December, the drought should intensify or persist in Texas.
Lets prove them wrong Texas!!!!
Lets all hope for more rain in January. There is a 50 percent chance this Monday in my area.

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

50% chance here Monday and 60% chance Tuesday. Our local weatherman says that might be a little lower percentage due to the persistant dry air in this area. Bummer! Oh well! I'm crossing my fingers and toes.

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

Here in Irving we just announced Stage 3 of water restrictions: ONLY ONCE a week !!

aaahhhh

pleazzzzeee some rain

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I am definately going to consider going to a soaker conversion on my sprinkler system in the flower beds if they do that here. Way too much work to allow it to die.

Arlington, TX

Can you water with soaker hoses more often? I don't have a sprinkler system so I hand water or use a regular old fashioned sprinkler. I would buy some soaker hoses and use them if it meant I could water more often.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

The rule in Arlington last year was, soaker hoses and hand held hose watering anytime. Sprinklers two days a week before 10a.m. and after 6p.m.
I hope it doesn't change this year.

Me too but that depends on the rain. Scary to think that our drinking water supply is disapearing.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Its dry all the way up to Washington state this year guys- thats not a good way to start a summer, best be prepared for last years heat..

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Fort Worth can water anytime with a hose. I personally enjoy hand watering. I was taught the best herbicide, pesticide and fertilizer you can have in a greenhouse (or garden) is your shadow.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Get ready folks, the local news is beginning to warn that we may go to Stage 4 water restrictions very soon. That means no sprinklers at all. You could still use a soaker hose and/or hand water at any time, but NO sprinkler use. This drought is serious business. Imnsho, they should have taken us to Stage 3 restrictions much sooner than they did (Rowlett didn't go to any restrictions until November ... very dumb). 2011 was our driest year on record (second hottest) and now we will truly learn the consequences of that reality. I hate to sound like such a downer, especially on a day when it's raining, but there you have it.

Hubby was in water industry long time and said FW sets better than most in N TX. Also Tarrant Co. is in better position to weather a drought than Dallas Co. But bottom line we are all in a sad boat and sure need rain to refill the lakes etc. They say that it takes a flood to end a drought, and sure hate to see that too.

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

It has been raining in Irving since last night !
yeaaaahhhh

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Here too, can keep it up for a week as far as I am concerned. We sure need the rain and slow is always better.

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

Not to brag or anything, but we've gotten around eight inches over here between last night and this morning. Still poaring rain, wouldn't be surprised if we got around 12 inches in tortal. And, yes, the flash flood warnings are out. Our UPS driver said he probably wouldn't be back for afternoon pick up here at work. The road behind our shop is underwater. Still, I don't think I mind. I was going to have to catch one of my donkeys tonight after work as he had a gash in his hind leg. Couldn't figure out how he did it, but he was walking and eating fine. It just looked bloody and I was going to catch him and wash it off. Well, mother nature is taking care of that for me! Thank you very much MN =D!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Congratulations to all of us, we got 1 and a half inches, but that is great.

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

Rain, I love you.

Arlington, TX

Woke up at 3 AM to a downpour here, wonderful!

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Got almost 3" in Rowlett all told. Desperately needed and most appreciated.

We really got a lot of rain today and yesterday. Also hail and high winds. The Weather Channel reported that our area was acting as some sort of funnel for all the rain action as the whole front moved slowly east. I thought I was crazy when my rain gauge read 8 inches (or may DH was playing a joke on me). But it looks as if the rain gauge was accurate after all.

Poor son #2 just bought a house, he lived at home and saved for several years. He just bought a washer and dryer, loaded them up in his truck and drove home. Called to say he backed his truck up to the side door to off load into house and the truck sunk into the mud and grass up to the axles. I guess mom & dad's house warming present will be several loads of stone for his drive. Ah well, I'll still take this rain!

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh yuck..that is too bad.
I woke up last night trying to figure out what the weird sound was.............rain!

Arlington, TX

Wonder how much the whole event dropped on us?

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

On the news this morning (Tyler news channels) they were reporting that Rains and Hopkins counties were reporting between 8 - 12 inches. Apparently those two counties were acting as some kind of "weather funnel" where all the storms met and stalled out while trying to get around Lake Tawakoni (I can never spell that right--sorry) and Lake Fork. The good news is the two lakes, which were extremely low before this storm system, got the same rain. They're still not anywhere near full, but every little bit helps.

I have two rain gauges, one at one end of my veggie garden and one over by the front pond/tank. The veggie gauge said 8 inches total and the pond rain gauge read a little over six inches. One of the school's weather stations reported ten inches.

But the sun in shining today! So tonight I will dig out the little onion starts I put in over the weekend and re-plant. So life is good!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

It is a glorious day indeed!!! Praise the Lord and mother Nature.

Hooyah for the sun! All trucks are now out of the mud! Just a few hours of beautiful sun to help dry things up and they were able to pull all three trucks out with our tractor!

San Marcos, TX(Zone 8b)

We are going to get a much needed night in the 20's this week. The Houston area is reporting fruit trees breaking dormancy NOW which is bad. I hope a few days in the 50's and lows in the 30's and 20's will put an end to that nonsense.

I am just so happy about the rain. Many areas have already met and exceeded their January normal rainfall. NWS is 0 for 2 for December and January saying that they would be drier than normal. Lets keep it up folks.

Talihina, OK

Colder than a witches tit here this sunny day has finally warmed up to above freezing but with a wicked wind chill just a little bit ago I checked the W/C and it was 16 ...

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I love you, Grits. Tell it like it is.....

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

-in a cast iron bra, chuckle-watched it snow all day from a warm window with a cup of hot tea-am in Tennessee, over by Loretta's place, the rain is great, but it is in spots, needs to soak more than the same spot awhile...

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I will finish the quote "flying 90 miles an hour over the north pole!" LOL!

Alba, TX(Zone 8a)

Snort! Indeed =D!

Supposed to be a nice weekend here. Must drive up to NE Arkansas to take son #1 back to college. Hope they are expecting same weather as I've really loved the rain but am in the mood for some sun!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Me too, I need to get out and cut down some of the dormant plants.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I did that last week with the 3 pretty days all in a row. Did my usual.....pitched seed all over the place and then we had a good soaking rain.

Talihina, OK

Each winter I always try and overseed my sparce bermuda lawn with crimsom clover or if NA then some rye grass, but the other day when it rained I got my clover seed all ready and went to the front porch and the whole yard was covered with white crowned sparrows and juncos ..It was like they were just waiting for the wefare office to open so my clover remains in the can waiting for snow...

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

too funny ...

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

I have the same little birdies (plus several others) and I just watch them. Very relaxing.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)
