Powder Puff

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I just bought a Powder Puff Bush (Calliandra haematocephala) and THEN did some research. It seems this is not hardy in my zone 8 but I was just hoping it would come back in the spring. Does anyone know about these and where they will survive?
Thank you

Where do you live in zone 8? I think I'm on the border Zone 8/9. I'm located between the river and the ocean, just south of Jacksonville FL and have this bush. It is in semi-shade - full sun in am and shade in the hot afternoon and mine is thriving. This winter it did die back and I was scared I lost it to the frost, but it came back. I mulched 2-3 inches during the cold with pine bark and pine needles. If you are scared of loosing to frost - you can always put it in a pot and bring it in when the colder weather comes.

Thanks for the information. I will mulch it good and see what happens (I am in Panama City). When I find the seeds, you can have some.

Mine did not come back in zone 7b-8a. I bring mine in the house once it is ready to freeze. I was told it WOULD make it outside though. I guess it depends on the year.
