Vertigo

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

I had my first bout with vertigo this last year. I googled it and found the Epley excercise. Guys, it's wonderful.
This is not an exercise like a workout, rather, you lie on the bed crossways, and you turn your head, etc. It's very easy, and you are rid of the vertigo in a matter of days. Mine was gone in two days. You'll find complete instructions, even animation, on the internet. It said 50% of us get it again in a year, but I haven't yet.

Thank you Sybil, I will have to study it and try it.

I also will look into it.

I've dealt with vertigo for years but find mine is allergen related as it occurs at specific times of year. My solution was always Benadryl although I don't like the sluggish effect. The pharmacist commented that he was surprised I found that Benadryl also works for vertigo. I used it assuming it was sinus drainage into the ear canals. In recent years, I've learned to take a half tab and it works for vertigo without the hangover feeling.

I like non prescription solutions so will gladly look at this alternative. Thanks. Kristi

sybram,

Vertigo is a symptom that could have a number of causes. Some causes could be life threatening. I hope you find out from your doctor why you are getting vertigo. Mine is also allergen related.

Well, I've only had vertigo one stretch of time. I think it lasted a few weeks. Of course, I don't know if it was on the way out when I started the Epley thing or if it really worked that fast. The vertigo sites explain the "ear rocks" and how they get out of their rightful place. It all worked for me just like they said. Oh, one thing--it said to have a person help you. I did it by myself, and it worked fine. Too much trouble syncing our schedules to wait on DH.

And I know different positions affect different people, but leaning my head back, like looking at the ceiling would cause the vertigo for me.

Just got back for a home school Christmas concert in Irving, and I'm pooped.

The only time I've had vertigo was due to an ear infection. The doc initially thought is was a problem with the "ear rocks" and made me do those exercises for 2 weeks, but no change. So she consented to prescribing antibiotics, which cleared up my ear and my vertigo immediately. Now when I can tell that my ears are stopping up, usually due to drainage caused by allergies, I take a Musinex. Nothing gets those ear canals draining like Musinex.

I had it worse the first time and was prescribed dramamine(sp) (sea sick pill) but that didn't solve the problem immediately. The other times it has returned were shortened because I was told by someone to purposely sling my head around while laying on the bed or sitting down, guess it could have been called exercise. LOL! Also think it could be from the sinus pressure. I haven't had it in quite a while now, it is a most irritating feeling.

Thanks for the exersise tip, and thanks also for the Musinex tip. I have the same problem--ears draining/blocking due to allergies. Don't like taking antibiotics so much, so now I'll get some Musinex.

Lord I need to look this up myself. At times mine come and go so much, I never know how long it last. I got something off the internet also and I paid 50.00 for it, then I didn't have it anymore. I got to find it.
