Plant ID, Nana's Plant

(Ang) Bremerton, WA(Zone 8b)

I found a box with some photos and was absolutely surprised to see a picture of this beauty in with them. The picture was most likely taken by my Nana and was definitely my Nana's plant. The photo was likely taken in the 80's.

The funny thing is I remember this plant but for some odd reason I kept figuring it was a Christmas cactus and I was just exaggerating the size in my head.

Any idea what it is and where I can get one? The plant is no longer in my family but I would love to have one.

It is an Epie Hybrid, but I have no idea which one. The age of the picture should help in the ID. It is quite beautiful. bob

I have or had one, but never in that color! wow what a beauty!

When I saw the picture I thought it looked like one I've seen labeled as epiphyllum ackermannii online.

This looks like the same plant DG'r JB Berger is trying to identify.
I too have one that has not bloomed yet, but I think is the same.
All I know right now is that it is an "orchid cacti" which is no help to you.

This is the link to JBerger who is also trying to get identification.

Definitely not the same hybrid as Tikipod has nor is it an Ackermanii. What Mr. Berger is looking for is most likely a true native epie disocactus with a smaller bloom type than the large bloom Tikipod has. Ackermanii is more cup and saucer shape (smaller bloom) rather than the flat wheel shape of the extra large Tikipod hybrid. I have several large NOID reds that are very similar to Nana's plant but I am very reluctant to name until I am relatively sure that I'm correct.
It is, however, beautiful and worth collecting! bob

Hi, Peg told me you all had a plant similiar to my NOID and I thought I would post the latest pictures of it if you don't mind. I have no idea how old this baby is, but it must be old by the looks of the stems and size of the plant. It is much smaller now by about two feet. They had to cut it off at the bottom to get it into their car to bring it to me. LOL

First a bud.

Last is a picture of the bottom of the plant and the buds and flowers still there that were not cut off. I will certainly appreciate any suggestions you have. JB

Yours is certainly beautiful but it's a little bit different from the one in my Nana's picture. I think the flower on my Nana's might be larger than yours. I do hope someone who sees this post can help us both out :)

I hope we find an answer and please keep in touch. If you would like some cuttings let me know and I will be happy to send them to you. I know how much your Nana's plant must have meant to you. I am 83 and I know how much the plants I inherited mean to me.

The flowers on my Noid are 5 inches across and 3 inches long from the stem to the end looking at it from the side.
The picture I took was not of one of the larger flowers. Most of them were cut off to bring them to me but I was able to keep the cuttings and my friend who has a farm market is going to start them for me. My greenhouse is full of starters of Holiday cactus and I had no room.

Have a wonderful holiday season. JB
