This bird was soaring over my folks house in the northern Black Hills of South Dakota where the hills meet the plains.

Golden Eagle, adult. Note the all-dark brown colour except for the pale gold shawl over its head, and the long, fairly straight-edged wings with just slightly broader at the secondaries.
