your best source for spinosad?

West Palm Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

Believe it or not, NONE of my usual sources (big box home improvement centers & a few nurseries and garden supply places) have spinosad.

Where do you guys get yours?

thanks.

Most recently, through Amazon.com.

I got it from Amazon, too. Too bad the local stores don't sell it.

Here's a slightly edited paragraph I wrote a few weeks ago:

I did find a Greenlight product "Lawn and Garden Spray Spinosad." It was $14 at Home Dept (and it took 3 people hunting it down for me, because one employee knew he had seen it, but the store has lawn products in about ten different locations, and just asking them to type the word "spinosad" into their database did not yield anything - WHY?).

Here's what the product I bought looks like (although I didn't order from this website and can't vouch for it):

Oddly, I just looked at the Home Depot website and didn't see that product online -- but they have several other ones you can apparently order online:

Good luck in tracking it down.

Southern Ag products has "Conserve" (which is spinosad) in several sizes and should be available from nursery supply houses or local grower supply. I buy Conserve in super concentrate, quart bottles from our local greenhouse supplier. I have an agriculture license, but some suppliers don't require those.

Aphids aren't listed, is this product effective at controlling aphids? My Chinese Cabbage plants are loaded with aphids.

Richland, WA(Zone 7b)

Mary, you should be able to control aphids with just about anything- I wouldn't "waste" the high dollar stuff on them! (just my opinion) Start with hard blasts of water directly on them- be sure to get the undersides well. Then try homemade spray with liquid soap, hot pepper sauce, etc. But with cabbage, lettuce, etc., sometimes if they get entrenched down in the hard to reach places, they can't be controlled. That's when I would cut way back and see if the plants will come back. Good luck!

Thanks Jo. After I posted that I went to Organic Gardening magazine and searched for aphid control. I have a recipe for a garlic/onion/pepper spray..........now if I can just keep my DH from spraying it on his food!!!

I pulled the one chinese cabbage that was seriously infested, now the one next to it is hammered. I'll just harvest the 3 or 4 plants that are still clear and yank the one or two that have aphids. Getting the bugs out of the where they are 'entrenched' as you call it, is impossible.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, even if hubby did spray his food with your homemede concoction it wouldn't seriously harm him- and that's more than we can say about the chemicals we see on store shelves!!! I'm glad you felt I was of some help-
