Liatris question

Arlington, TX

I was given some corms from patrob last year. They grew and grew and fell over. They flowered late in the fall but looked awful. Did I over water them because of the drought? I love liatris but haven't grown this xeric type before. I am thinking of digging and moving them into a large pot so the water they recieve can be controlled better. Any ideas or suggestions?

I have tried those and they do the same thing for me both in the ground and in a pot. The only time I have seen them growing straight up is in the wild, let me know if you have better luck with the pot method.

The liatris grow too tall with lots of water. In rainy years I put tomato cages around them when they first come out. This year I did not water the island bed where they are growing along with other plants that are drought proof. They stood up straight and bloomed beautifully this fall with no support at all.

They certainly grew well just very tall and floppy. I will try and move them to an area that gets little to no water.

That is good to know...I will transfer them to the xeri bed.

Just how drought tolerent are they? I am going to dig them up today and am thinking of moving them to the cactus (or future cactus) bed where it is nearly all sand and gravel and I don't plan on watering much at all next summer. Think they will survive there?
