I have a beautiful White Snakeroot http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1332/ setting seeds and they remind me of teeny tiny dandelion seeds. They have the little white fluffy parachute to carry them in the wind. How do I separate the fluff from the seeds or do I leave it on?
Any help would be appreciated.

separating seeds
Now I do not really know but if it were me I would do what nature intended and simply pick the flower head and later when I was ready to plant simply shake the head above whatever it was I was using for a planter ..Now I am just guessing ..
You don't need to separate the fluff from the seed, I don't think you can, just pick the fluff with the seed attached before it blows away.
It needs to be sprinkled on top of the wet soil and patted down, then just barely cover it with a very thin layer of soil to keep it from blowing away. You will have better luck if you winter sow it.
Normally the plant will self seed itself.
Josephine.
Thanks. I think I will have plants everywhere as there are more seeds than blades of grass in Texas rotflol
I am putting some in little baggies to be able to share. I just take a pinch and there is probably 30+ seeds in a 2" X 3" Baggie :) I have really enjoyed it blooming. I don't know how it got here but I am glad it did :)
Joesphine I have found 2 Hackberry in my yard. One was growing in the middle of my Vitex. If only my keeper plants would grow as out of control as they did. Why is it weeds grow so well and the keepers don't?
Well, Hackberry is not a bad tree, as a matter of fact it feeds a few different butterflies and birds.
Yes, Hackberry is a wildlife friendly tree however it reseeds freely - I'm fighting hundreds of seedlings all over the place! Pull them out, roots and all, with a pair of pliers. Cutting them off will not work, they just grow back!
