Before offering to my sister who lives in the FL panhandle, I'd like to know if she could leave it in the ground. I don't know the cultivar but its a three year old 3 foot tall one with variegated leaves and white to peach blooms. Thanks!
Brug in FLorida panhandle- dig or stay outside?
Sure...Leaving it out there... it will quite likely return from the roots... if you wanted a bigger plant come spring it should be dug up and come inside... it will soon catch up if you leave it out.. take a few cuttings of it either way..
it might be a Peach Parfait... AKA.. Maya..but since you don't really know... it is indeed an unknown..
I live in the Panhandle (Panama City, Fl.) and I have three in the ground - they die back to the ground every winter and come back from the roots in the spring. The only problem I have is that the are JUST NOW setting buds. If we get a cold snap or lots of 40+ mph winds, as is common this time of year, I might not get to see blooms. The wind tears them to shreds. I would highly recommend, if she wants to see a 'pretty' shrub, that she bring indoors for the fall/winter.
Thank you both!
Truly unknown name but pretty, nice scent.
Kay, thanks. I don't think she'd care to commit to the bring in, she's just not that into it, I don't think. I appreciate your local feedback.
Sally, why don't you just visit her in late Nov. or early Dec. every year and bring it in FOR HER?!!! Maybe you could give her a Crepe Myrtle or Oleander instead - they live outdoors year around with NO problem.
Now thats a great idea! (the visit) Visiting and gardening, a winning combo! We already have bonded for hours over roots of "bamboo vine" (briars)
Take her one of your fabulous Caudex plants (I THINK it is you that grows these)!
I have one struggling desert rose - afraid I am not the one with the fab Caudexes LOL
Sally, I guess the other gal's name is SallyO - sorry for the mixup.
