dead birds

I have found dead birds laying in my yard. First it was a blue bird. Then yesterday a sparrow. The sparrow had fresh blood on it so it must have just happen. I know we have a falcon visiting every now and then. But wouldnt the falcon take the bird if it killed it? Hope it is not a cat. Have not seen any around here
