Has anyone ever heard of a type of hoya referred to as apple peel or apple peeling? It grew on a long vine, with red, green, and cream on the leaves. My husband's grandmother had it, and she passed away before I joined the family. Several members of the family are looking for it, but the best I can help is thinking it was a hoya. Any ideas?

sounds like H. carnosa --possibly H. carnosa variegata aka H. carnosa 'Tricolor'.
I was thinking the same thing, some "new name" I was thinking maybe for Variegated rope hoya....I can see someone calling that apple peel.

This is why I was thinking Variegated Rope Hoya...An apple peel curls as it's peeled off the apple..

You could be right. Yours is so pretty. I have just the plain one. My variegated one froze last winter.
The leaves are very pretty with the pink edging. Is that one fragrant?
This one is a little touchier than the plain green one.
Very slight fragrance that I've only noticed if it was in the greenhouse and got really close to it.

I never saw the plant, but from my aunt, and my great aunt, they are both thinking THIS is it!!!! No one in the family knew the 'real' name for it. Apparently Granny only called it apple peel. My guess was a hoya....but I spent HOURS looking at hoyas and there are so many of them! As typical as well, some remember it having curly leaves, others remember straight. From reading, the leaves can be curly depending on lack of sun, or water as well. I'll keep ya posted after a few more family members look at the photos.

Rope hoya's will be curly, no matter how much sun. IF it's variegated rope hoya, and it's getting some sun, it can have red/green/white. The red shows up more if it's getting more sun, NOT all Hoya's want to grow in the shade.
