That is interesting information but some how, and I'm sure there is a scientific reason or exception for this, the red flowering native honeysuckles (lonicera sempervirens) the hummingbirds like so much, are used by the bees first. The bees can't get in the narrow trumpets so they make a hole in the side of the flower near the base of the flower and get the nectar that way.
Anyone else notice this?

I have seen large bees go into the back of a Ruellia flower the same way.
