I shot this hummer on 10/18 at Smith Point Hawk Watch tower. Smith Point is in the Houston/Galveston area.
I know it isn't the usual suspect around my house, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, but I don't know what it is.
Which Hummer?
Probably female Black-chinned with those broad-tipped primaries, but tricky to be certain.
Resin
Thanks Resin! I just checked it on the Cornell site and it does fit - buffy flanks, green on top, gray head, spots on throat and even the white spot behind eye.
Patti
Sure looks like it to me, although seems a bit smaller than the ones I was seeing. Size is difficult for me to estimate though. How cool that it is resting in your (or someone's) hand! Wow.
beautiful shots, patti
