Shot in Galveston, Texas a few days ago.
I was attracted to the sound of Mallards ( quacks and feeding call) in a fresh water pond. I took a few shots, but when I looked at the photos later I thought maybe they were Mottled Ducks instead. Based on what I've read, they will sound the same, so that wasn't definitive.
CLOSED: Mallard or Mottled?
Look's good for Mottled, from what Ive read the (speculum) or the blue wing patch would be missing the broad white border on Mottled's which show in a typical Mallard female. However best to let others "ring in" with more confirmation.
Yep, Mottled; the one on the left is a drake (yellow bill; note also the black spot at the base of the bill).
Resin
Thanks much Burd and Resin. I got one right! Yeah. Thanks for pointing out how to tell the drake Resin. I must admit, I wasn't sure.
