Anyone here do rescue?

We're trying to find a new furry family member and I don't have a lot of time to fill out 4 page questionaires for all the rescue groups. I've applied to two, the second one rejected us and said we didn't meet all of their requirements.

I'm just wondering if anyone here volunteers for a rescue group and could give some input on what exactly these groups insist upon to adopt a pup/dog.

We have an acre yard, 1/2 of it is fenced in. My hubby used to take our Britannys for a run in the field behind our house for a half hour or so every day to get some good exercise. They slept in the house at night but were kenneled outside during the day while we were at work except during extreme cold or heat. We have a sociable indoor cat who we've not immunized (its actually my daughters cat and she moved away and plans on taking her back in spring).

This is some of the info they inquired about and we were rejected for lab mix pups. They haven't answered me as to why we don't qualify....by reading the info I've provided, what do you think it might be? I've never tried going thru a rescue group before and I'm becoming discouraged at the amount of time it takes and what I'm considering some ridiculous questions in order to adopt a dog. I understand their position, but with the thousands of animals needing good homes I am getting the impression they are too stringent.
