Moving My Mealy Blue Sage Questions

I need to relocate my MB sage to a different section of my flower bed. If I do it now, do I need to cut it back when I move it or move all 3' of it? Should I wait til spring to move it?

I would cut it back to about 4 inches and be sure that you water it very well before and after .
