Pine Straw for Garlic Mulch?

Atlanta, GA

Hi,

I am planting out my normal 1/2 acre of garlic this year and had a question about pine straw. I normally used coco pete to mulch but my connection was lost. I can either go with Hay, which I worry may have seed in it or pine straw. Has anyone used it before, is it too acidic, and does it really hold in any moisture?

Thanks,
Mark

I have used PINE NEEDLES just last week after planting my garlic.
I always use pine needles as mulch on my vegetable garden. It is perfect to hold moisture (trust me after 70 record days of 100 F degrees !)
