From a parent's point of view, growing cannabis for personal use should be considered no different from producing home brew for personal use. In fact, since marijuana is far safer than beer or wine, it should really be considered more similar to growing rhubarb than making home brew.

The only way for parents to keep drug dealers away from our children is for supermarkets to be allowed to sell legally-grown marijuana to adults at prices low enough to prevent illegal competition. The current situation of unrelenting demand combined with zero legal supply draws drug dealers into our neighborhoods and makes our children LESS safe. This is an unacceptable situation that we must change!

Good points, though they have all been made before. Unfortunately, for those that believe otherwise, all the good sense in the world will make no difference... though perhaps eventually they will simply be overwhelmed by the majority.

The problem is that most people believe that cannabis is BAD bad BAD! This is because of media coverage, but also because of the hippy movement during the 60s and 70s. People automatically associate pot with cheech and chong's movie portrayal of what pot does to you. Which is, of course, entirely theatrical and untrue. However, there is a HUGE percentage of the population who have closed their ears and are chanting LaLaLaLaLaLa while we try to talk to them about reason and common sense. This group is called collectively the "baby boomers". Unfortunately, pot will stay illegal until the baby boomers are gone. I would guess in about 20 years or so.

Consider this too...

If farmers were allowed to grow hemp, then the air around and downwind of the fields would be full of pollen...thus, no one could grow smokable pot in those areas.

Also, drug dealers don't want to sell pot. They can only double their money with pot. With cocaine, they can 5 to 10 times their money. So, when someone goes to find pot, they have to go to a drug dealer to get it. It is VERY common for drug dealers to sell them a little pot, and GIVE them a small bag of coke to try. They know that 75% of the people who try coke will come back for more. Repeat business is where the money is.

A pot smoker might buy one ounce per month for $200 - dealer profits $100 per month per customer - needs at least 30 steady customers to make a decent wage.

A cokehead or crackhead might spend $2000 per month ($500 per week is not uncommon) - dealer profits $1500+ per month per customer - needs 2 steady customers to make the same wage.

If you were a dealer, would you want 30 people coming by your house all the time? Or 2 ? It is safer for the dealer to sell hard drugs. The dealers push hard drugs on people who buy pot. If pot were legal, you could grow your own or buy it from a reputable business and never have to meet a drug dealer again.

The only reason pot is a gateway drug is because it is illegal.

Lastly, alcohol is more of a gateway. Night clubs and bars are full of drugs.

Ask a police officer if this stuff makes sense. Ask an honest one under the age of 40.

Here in the sunshine state there selling in our store K2 synthetic weed thats young people are dying from. I say they should legalize pot really no worse than booze. Government gets there tax like cigarettes and booze sky high tax and we go on with it. Take the load off the courts and Jails. People who smoke are home on the couch watching TV boozers are running the roads causing accidents but its still legal

Here in Tennessee, the desperate folks are doing something now called "bath salts". This is a slang term for a type of synthetic 'khat'. Go to wiki and check it out. Here is an excerpt..."Synthetic cathinones such as mephedrone which are chemically similar to cathinone, naturally found in the plant Catha edulis (khat), were first synthesised in the 1920s"...

There was a case a few weeks ago where two guys were doing bath salts and one guy leaned over and bit a huge chunk of flesh off of his buddies face. He said the drug made him think he was a vampire/zombie.

They are trying to make it illegal here. I really doubt that people would even think about these synthetics if there was a safe natural alternative.

Thats exactly what I am talking about that craps made from xylene a paint product people here are dyeing from it .
