CLOSED: Carrion plant
Do you leave yours outside? It looks like it is planted in the ground. I have a couple also and one has been blooming 1 or 2 blooms at a time all summer. There are two that should open in the next couple of days.
I have it in a raised octogon flower bed dedicated to succulents.
Still even in my climate during the winter here in Cental Florida I have to protect them. Took a few years to figure out how to cover that with out too much fuss...live and learn.
Even the rooted cutting I have are blooming, it must have been a good year and the right amount of sun for them I also tried a new food on them maybe that was the answer...I don't know but it sure is happy, the flowers are huge now and busting at the seams.
The smell from all these flowers blooming all at once makes a wonderful "outside" plant not to mention the amount of flies it attracts!
You wouldn't want it blooming by your front door...LOL
Congrats on the flowers on yours!! Mine actually blooms all year round but not normally with 15-20 flowers going at once.
Thanks for the post :-)))
LOL, actually that is where mine is...at the front door. But since mine only has one or two at a time, I never really notice the 'fragrance". Yours is beautiful! I can't believe noone wants any.
If you saw the flies this is attracting, it being by your front door would make you abandon your front door...I promise!
On occassion the breeze drifts the odor in the other direction where the "manly man" works and he has his nose all twisted and wants to know what died, I have to ignore him and walk away before I bust out in laughter, if he only knew that was coming from a plant...LOL
Yea, your right!! I too am surprised no one has taken me up on the offer of good sized blooming rooted portions...Oh well
Not as popular as I thought it was going to be...another lesson learned.
You & I like it that's all that matters
I love mine....the two blooms opened this afternoon.
Dont tell my family but I want it! please check my have-list
carpathian,
don't worry too much about the smell....i'm sure when it gets to be as big as floridas with that many blooms it probably will stink, but mine with just a bloom or two at a time....I can honestly say I have never smelled it. It just amazes me how such a tiny little bloom to start with, grows into such a huge flower and fuzzy too!
The flower pictures are amazing, I never seen them ''in person'', would be so cool to grow them
I don't think I have anything you would like but check my trade list as I would love some of your Carrion plant.
Would you like some dbl. tuberose as an exchange? I have lots, it really multiplies. Or some amorphophallus konjac?
For everyone who recieved a cutting...Happy gardening
I was glad to offer rooted cuttings to everyone who showed an interest, by means of D-mail or here at the trading forum.
Now I need to get back to the daunting task of finding a job, have a great experience with your new babies and remember keep them out of the cold!
Cheers, Floridaheat
Thank you, Thank you Thank you....
Sandy
