beeswax seal - Day 8

Tucson, AZ

i made a fresh cut through a cutting that one could tell had been off of the mother tree for a bit. i wanted to see if the beeswax seal worked better with fresh cuts. look at the pic to see the results at day 8. i am very excited by what i see! there is essentially no die back to speak about and the cutting is pushing out callus already! the could potentially reduce the rooting process?

i resealed the cutting with beeswax.

now i'd like to try this on a cutting that is known to die back when the cut is open to air for an extended period.

ok..let's start at the beginning...why do you dip the end of a fresh cutting in wax, etc ?????
all this is new to me
thank you!

i live in the desert and leaving the cut open to dry air seems to cause die back and slow the process of pushing out callus. i intended for the wax to create a humid environment around the cut. the hope is that this would encourage the cutting to push out callus tissue readily. looks like it worked! btw, you need callus tissue before you can get roots.

is is possible that just like honey, the beeswax might have anit-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. this would be a big plus!

i found that fresh cuts work better than weathered, hardened cuts as long as they do not already callus. if that is the case, just plant it.

i hope this helps! i just ordered a set of cuttings that appear to suffer from die back. it will be interesting to see how they respond.

i hope this helps.

yes yes! thanks...is it the latex hardening that turns into callus or just callus tissue ?

new cells are produced at the base of the cutting.

gotcha

try it if you can. i am thinking good callus w/i 2-3 weeks. then, 7-10 days to push out roots. of course, longer to get an established root ball. this is doing optimal rooting time.
