What kind of lettuce and spinach can I grow in this zone and when should I plant. I plan to use the gutter system mentioned in container gardening.
lettuce and spinach in zone 10b
I don't know the gutter system but you would probably do best with leaf lettuces like black seeded Simpson or Red Sails. You may have good success with small butterheads like Speckles during winter. Don't try any iceberg, Romaines or larger heading types unless you have consistent wet and cool weather over a long season. FL winters are notoriously dry. It would help if you included your zone with your name info since FL has about five zones with the a and b inclusions.
As for spinach, Bloomsdale is popular and tolerant of warmer temps. Tyee, Melody and Olympia are also grown in warmer states.
New Zealand spinach also tolerates higher temps. How cold does it get at your place?
Sorry, I missed the title of your thread where you say you are in zone 10. I have grown Malabar and New Zealand spinach. I like them both. They do not have the same flavor as standard spinach varieties.
I live in zone 10b. average winter temps in the 70s with very little rain. Thanks
Yes I see. I have a home due east of you in North Miami Beach. Very dry in the winter. I've never seen spinach grown down in the Redland or Homestead agricultural areas in winter. They grow cool crops in mid-central FL though.
