The subject is about as descriptive as I can get. We live in central Texas and she saw this bird at one of our bird baths the other day. She didn't get a picture so hopefully her description will suffice:
The bird had a black head - the black goes about half way down the back and part of the throat. The rest of the body was orange. It had either very dark orange or black tail feathers. The wings were black with a white stripe. The beak was needle shaped. It was about the size of a female Texas Grackle.
She's never seen this bird around here before and it hasn't been back since that she knows of.

Thanks Resin, she looked at pictures of both and she is sure its one or the other. Maybe it will show up again this weekend while I'm home and I can get a picture.
