This bird flew in picture perfect and my camera wouldn't take the shot -- low battery. The battery charger was right next to me. I carefully put the batteries in the charger (bird was looking right at me). I counted 1-one-thousand, 2... up to 20. Figured 20 seconds was enough for one pic. Got the camera to turn on, pointed it, focused and it flew off right as I clicked! Was able to get the following though.
Seemed kind of squatty -- it seemed oriole size but the tail seemed shorter and the bill was huge. No wing bars. The wings and top of the head are kind of grayish though. Mostly, all yellow.
CLOSED: summer tanager?
Yep, Summer Tanager.
Scarlet has a smaller bill, and darker wings.

Thank you! Don't know why I always get the females!
Female or immature - so that's the bulk of the population at this time of year
