Cheap climbers

Wigan, Landcashire, United Kingdom

If you have a local Morrisons supermarket near you they have loads of climbers for sale at 1.49p they are in a 3 inch pots but are great value.

Also been to our local B @ Q and they are selling a lot of plants off cheap.

Trotted of to B @ Q this evening, came back with a Old climbing rose for 1.50p was 4.95p, got 2 Coreopsis for 70p each and got a big big Lavender bush for wait for it 20p, it was 3.99p, i thought it was a mistake for the others said half-price so took it to the checkout and they said yes if it is marked 20p you take our mistakes as well, or maybe the girls on the till are not really bothered. The Lavender is in immaculate condition too. Also got another russian vine for 2.00 instead of 8.00p, so i got the lot for just over 5 quid.I got 3 clematis blue moons last spring for 99p each, oh yes i go around them all looking at what they are selling off, got a pile of David Austin roses 3 years ago for 99p each. Only if i am desperate for a plant will i pay the full price.

The only plant I ever paid full price for was a Variegated Jacob's Ladder 'Brise d'Anjou' which cost me 8 quid from Homebase. It died within months of being planted.Lessons learned....I never pay more than £2 for a plant now.I am hoping that we can all swop plants in the Spring.

i just love taking home sad looking plants and trying to nurse them back to health. i got a gorgeous dracaenea 'lemon n lime' for 20p at homebase, and its looking great and a yucca for £2 which is thriving. i think they overwater a lot of their plants in the diy stores, all thats needed for them is a bit of tlc and they pick up no bother.

btw. marigold - a spring plant swap sounds great!

I'm always intrigued when our American friends have their 'Secret Plant Swaps' and they all check in on their Plant Exchange Forum and say what they received. It'd be good if we could organize something like that in Spring. I know I'll have lots of spare plants because I just can't stop myself dividing and propagating.
What do you think?

Lilith and Sheila do you think there is time to do it now or should we wait til Spring?

if we wait until spring i'll prob have a lot more to swap, i'm starting off quite a few perennials at the moment, so they'll be travelling size by the spring.
