... at least I have never seen them before! They showed up here 2 or 3 weeks ago. I have birds ganging up on my hummingbird feeder, actually lining up for their share and so does my mother. These yellow birds are something new to both me and my mother 3 miles away. I have been trying to get a decent picture but so far no luck. Just odd pictures. I am fairly positive they are Altamira Orioles and am wondering how common they are. Anyone have any idea where they are more often found? I am looking for more information. The pictures I have found do look like my birds. I have lived here in Odessa since the early 70's and grew up with mockingbirds and crows.. the rare redbird or robin.. it is really strange to see a bird with real color on it like this. There have been a few moving into the area over the years but nothing like this.
New birds to my area ......
Looked up Odessa - you're well out of range for Altamira Oriole (by about 600 miles!). Check out Hooded Oriole, that looks fairly similar, and is a lot more likely. And keep trying for that elusive pic!

I think I have figured out that they are actually Bullocks Oriloes! Got a better look at them later today.. they lined up when I was sitting on the patio and I was able to get a closer look.. too bad I ddi not have the camera in my hand and as soon as I twitched.. poof.. they were gone for the day. I do have some pictures that I was able to use for comparisons so it was possible to look at some of the differences. They sure are wonderful birds. Learning about what to feed them.
Yep, they are mapped for your area, so very likely.
