Need ideas on landscaping away from house in front

Need to landscape a barren front yard but don't want to have plants up against the house. Have well water and if it hits the house it will stain the siding and it is northern facing so not much sun. Does anyone have ideas for something near the house with the garden starting beyond that point. Was thinking of a small hidden patio on one side but have never seen one in the front before. Thanks
