I saw a hawk near the Valentine Wildlife Refuge on the Nebraska/South Dakota border and took a few pics. On the way back, I saw a hawk in the same general area and took some more pics. I think both hawks are the same kind, but I'm not sure what that is. They have a red tails without bars like a red-tailed hawk. The one that I photographed flying has a white rump like a Northern Harrier but does not seem to have the harrier face. Both have white blotches on their backs like a Red-shouldered Hawk. When flying the tips of the wings have what I call fingers.
CLOSED: name that hawk
Both Red-tailed; it's a very variable species, but a Buteo with a reddish tail is always a Red-tailed
Resin
That's good to know. Thank you!
